Clip 1: 27 Voices, One Melody - The European Union: The Bridge to Connect 27 Member States
Excerpt 1 of the video 27 Voices, One Melody - The European Union: The Bridge to Connect 27 Member States
“Is music a language that everybody understands?”
“One European Culture, does it exist? What connects us, Europeans? ”
“Living in another European Member state; what does it bring?”
Questions at the centre of the project that brings together young musicians, most of them Portuguese, who live, study and work across all 27 EU Member States. Through music, a language that we all understand, a virtual journey through Europe aims to express the freedom, diversity and creativity that unites us, highlighting how the EU provides a stage to exchange and collaborate internationally.
Inspired by Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, a Portuguese and a Dutch composer (Carlos Azevedo and Chiel Meijering), wrote two new compositions. The project has been carried out by Dutch musician, Henk van Twillert, who has been living and working in Portugal for many years.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands developed this project to celebrate the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Conceived for online transmission - due to the pandemic that we are going through - the video can be seen from anywhere in Europe and the world.
